I played another game of X-Wing today against my eldest son after his younger brother decided he didn't want to play if he was going to lose (?). Anyway, this was a straight up dogfight between the elite of the rebellion - Skywalker, Antilles and so on - and the best of the Imperial Academy TiE fighter wing. It was really fast and furious, as we were not using any upgrade cards, so it was just a pure head to head shoot out. In the end, the rebels thrashed the Imperials, with three of the bad guys blown up and the other bugging out at high speed. Victory to the Empire! (that's me!)
Welcome to my solo board wargaming blog. I like a nice cuppa and a decent doorstep sarnie with my games, so it's time to get a brew on! This blog will follow my occasional adventures in hex and counter board wargaming, 'off the shelf' pre-painted miniature wargaming and 'print and play' paper wargaming. I like to keep it really simple so there's more 'beer and pretzels' than high complexity number crunching on the menu.

X-Wing: Destroy the Shield Generator!
Another nice day and another al-fresco game of X-Wing, this time with my TiE bomber and TiE fighter escort on a mission to blow up a rebel shield generator. The rebels played by my son, defended the target with an A Wing and an X-Wing, which sounds a bit one sided until you factor in all the upgrades and pilot ratings, which evened it out to 50 points a side. It was a really good game and I managed to blow up the shield generator with concussion missiles but at the cost of one TiE bomber shot down and a TiE fighter badly damaged. Long Live the Empire!
Battle Ravens
I have now got Battle Ravens thanks to a weekend sale at the Plastic Soldier Company, where it was reduced to only £17.50, half the normal price. When it arrives I'll give it a try.

X-Wing: Boba Fett and the Blockade Runner
Another nice day and another game of X-Wing, this time played outside 'al fresco' style on one half of the ping pong table, which makes a perfect set up for a game. This time Boba Fett was chasing down a renegade blockade runner who was on a mission to bring spare parts for a rebel shield generator. The two ships were pretty evenly matched but, in the end, Slave-1 proved to be more resilient and blew the blockade runner out of the sky. There were a lot of close shaves and some dodgy dice rolling too, so it was a very enjoyable game. The next one will be a TiE Bomber raid on the shield generator with an escort of TiE Fighters against a defending force of X-Wings and A-Wings.

X-Wing Boba Fett vs Han Solo
A great game of X-Wing with Han Solo's Millennium Falcon blowing up Boba Fett's Slave 1 by the end of the game. We used the advanced rules with all the cards and upgrades, together with a new terrain cloth for a bit of low level action over a red desert planet. Good fun!
