I'm going to try to get my head around Wing Leader over the next week or so, having a first edition copy of Wing Leader: Victories to play about with. It's supposed to be relatively straightforward to learn but that in itself is quite a relative thing and in my experience doesn't always turn out to be true. It should be interesting to find out but I do have a low pain threshold when it comes to learning a new system, so I'll have to grit my teeth and get stuck in.
I like the Wing Leader system. It feels more grand tactical with squadrons or flights going up against each other, instead of individual fighters going at it. It is another game I play on the VASSAL module, which allows for easy setup/takedown and you can take screenshots without a camera.
ReplyDeleteYes, I really like the scope and focus of the game, just not so keen on the mechanics. Maybe because I play a lot of miniatures based air wargames.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely takes a change in mindset from tactical miniatures games (not to mention the side-scrolling style). The mechanics grew on me over time. It really does show the benefits of better pilots and doctrine, without me having to be a good pilot.
